God of War 4 Preview
The Moment Monumental enough for the Gods themselves is finally upon us! And what more
could he possibly have to do? I mean what does a man/demi-god/god slayer do after essentially
eradicating the entire Greek god lineage do when he’s done?...Well he settles down with a wife
and kid, and seems to find his soft side. Admittedly, going into watching the trailer, I expected
the angry man we all know so well to come out in a firestorm, a literal firestorm, killing just
about any and everything that gets in his way. However, with the child in mind, one cannot help
but think that the Kratos that we all have come to enjoy is something of a changed man. No
longer can we expect him to hate and kill everything, but now to pass his knowledge on to his
son. Yet this is still the true God of War we a re talking about here, it cannot be this streamline
all the way through, some gods have to die this time around right?
If you missed the E3 Presentation, here’s the breakdown! Kratos, is changed from his hate-
fueled rampage taking his son on his first real hunt. As the developers gave us a preview of the
beautiful interactive world of the Norse Mythos. As they hunt for the elk, the son startles their
prey in his naïve attempt to swiftly kill the animal, and right as Kratos seems ready to showcase
his anger with his Spartan Rage, he holds back, showing a more meditative man, less
destructive man. As they continue the hunt, the pair find themselves ambushed by some sort of
undead warriors which they quickly dispense of, as well as a troll. Whilst fighting the troll,
Kratos gives his son another opportunity to prove himself by killing the troll once He downs it
with his Spartan Rage, which his son responds by shooting the Spartan in the chest with an
arrow. The series of events demonstrates a few things: 1) Kratos is still a badass that can use
magical weapons, calmly take an arrow shot, and still kill a troll 10 times his size. 2) Manner in
which Kratos chooses to impart his knowledge on his son, will be an equally important part of
the gaming experience. Continuing on their hunt, the young one finds the Elk, and readies
himself to kill his first prey. His father, right at his shoulder guiding him through the experience,
and once the arrow downs the elk, his father assists the boy in taking his first life. As we see the
strained relationship of the two, as well as Kratos’ hesitance to get close to the boy, the view
pans out to show us the World ahead that gamers will get to explore, as well as a creatively and
fluidly designed dragon.
In closing, this will definitely be an interesting experience. Sure, unfortunately the game will not
only be one mad Spartan slicing his way to the top of another Mythos, but rather, a very
carefully thought out journey between father and son. In a way, we at Nerdy Mango like to
think of it as a second chance for Kratos, and we are eager to see what more comes of the
game as it is in its developmental stages. No release date has yet been published, but you can
believe we will be keeping our viewers updated as we become informed!
