Marvel/Fox Rivalry May Come To An End
Back in the mid 90's, Marvel was not known for its big screen productions or after credit scenes, it was just a comic book company (simpler times), but comics weren't selling like they used to and Marvel had to file for bankruptcy in 1996, and sell the movie rights to characters and super powered groups, such as The X-Men, Spider-Man, Blade (which they recently got back), and The Fantastic Four, just to name a few. Now, because of this, Marvel has had to start major movie franchises with B-List characters like, Thor, Ant-Man, Guardians of the Galaxy, and Captain America, starting in 2008 with 'Iron Man.' Amazingly enough, under the incredible Kevin Feige, Marvel Studios has succeeded and become the premiere producer of super hero movies. Kevin Feige had the crazy idea of making a cinematic universe where Marvel super heroes would coexist and, occasionally (maybe not so occasional anymore), team up for large scale block buster hits. This format has become wildly successful, but for a hardcore fan of the comics, because of the licensing disputes, the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) has much to be desired.
There are stories from the comic books that I wish I could see on the big screen, but because of the (I believe childish) rivalry between Marvel and the studios they sold movie rights too, it was very unlikely that we would see stories like 'AvX,' or any of the Spider-Man/Deadpool team-ups. However, The feud between studios may be coming to an end. In light of the success of Marvel and Sony's partnership, where Sony gave Marvel creative control over Spider-Man, and the fact that Fox and Marvel have reportedly been in talks about a partnership, cross studio partnerships and collaboration seem to be the direction super hero movies are moving in.
But the question is: What's the next property that will be brought to the MCU? Sadly, to your dismay, we most likely won't see an 'AvX' adaptation any time soon (or will we), but what's more likely to happen is that The Fantastic Four will come to the MCU. The Fantastic Four, much like Spider-Man, will need to be rebooted, after what most people would call the worst super hero movie ever (I call it that too). Obviously Fox and The Fantastic Four need new creative direction, and Kevin Feige is more than capable of pulling this franchise out of mediocrity. In the comics, The Fantastic Four is a light hearted family of super heroes, that would fit perfectly in the aesthetic of the MCU, and since they don't have an established cinematic universe, like the X-Men, rebooting The Fantastic Four in the MCU would be almost as easy as putting Spider-Man in 'Captain America: Civil War.'
